This is a video tour of an organic vegetable garden in Japan! The narrator in this video, Jun, asked his neighbor who has been a farmer for decades, if he could rent some of his farmland to work in, and he said yes. This video details the various plants in Jun's garden, including peanuts, Japanese mugwort (yomogi), cauliflower, and brussel sprouts. Throughout the video, Jun showed the entire process of building his vegetable garden- weeding, cultivating, and planting. Many of Jun's neighbors came by to help him throughout the video to ask about his progress or to share their advice. Jun's farmer neighbor even shared some of his own vegetables he grew with Jun- including naga-imo (Chinese yam), and radishes. At the end of the video, Jun showed that he was planning on making bentos with all of the vegetables that he grew and harvested from the garden. This video showed a closer look at how farming in Japanese neighborhoods looks like, as well as the types of vegetables farmers grow to share with others, or incorporate into their own cooking!

ブログポスト四 🍱

This video details a typical day for the owners of a neighborhood grocery store in Kawaguchi, Japan- named Friend Shop Oyama after the owners, the Oyama family. The day for the Oyamas begins early in the morning, buying the best fresh produce for the shop. Hours before the shop opens, the Oyama family is hard at work restocking the sale floor and adding the appropriate prices to all of the produce. To reduce labor costs, family-run supermarkets rely heavily on family members for labor, which allows them to compete with larger corporations. Fresh, homemmade food is made daily to be sold at the supermarket, including yakisoba. Although running the grocery store is a lot of hard work, the connections built hrough the store are very special to the Oyama family, which drives them to continue to provide quality goods to the local community.
